When I finally got my hands on this after Maryland Deathfest (about 2 weeks ago), its been in my player non stop.  Plain and simple, this album fucking rules.  This dutch band features Martin Van Drunen (Pestilence, Asphyx) on vocals, Stephan Gebedi (Thanatos) on guitars, Paul Baayens (Asphyx, Thanatos) on guitars, Theo Van Eekelen (Thanatos, Houwitser) on bass and Ed Warby (Gorefest) on drums. I must not fail to mention that this killer album was produced by none other than Dan Swano (Edge of Sanity, Nightingale) and Dan even guest vocals on the opener "Ordered Eastward".   "Of Frost and War" is the true death metalheads dream come true.  The album has heavy riffs, marching off to war drumming and insane vocals.  I have not heard one bad thing Van Drunen has done really, but HOB are fast becoming one of my favorites besides the almighty Asphyx.  The album has a semi concept focusing around World War II in Germany.  One brutal track after another "Ordered Eastward" and "General Winter" are stand out tracks.  You must be a total poser if you cannot bang your head to "General Winter"!!!  One of my favorite tracks on "Of Frost And War" is the song "Nachthexen"(Night Witches), which is about the Soviet Air Forces 588th night bomber regiment that were fronted by all females.  The song has serious melodic guitar riffing and true underground death metal written all over it.  If you are a fan of Bolt Thrower and Asphyx, then you should really dig on Hail of Bullets.  A couple of other favorite tracks of mine are "Stalingrad" and the epic and haunting "Berlin", with amazing musicianship most obvious.  This song gives me chills when I am hearing it.  Martin cries at the very end "Germany Cries".  And that closes "Of Frost and War".  Fucking amazing.  This album came out last year and so I am hoping they are going to be recording and releasing another album soon.  ***EDITED***  Hail of Bullets will release a MCD on 17 July, 2009.  2 new tracks, a cover and 3 live tracks from last year's Party San performance.  You can pre-order the MCD here at Metal Blade Germany- http://www.metalblade.de

If you get the chance to see them play live, by all means do it!!!   I saw their blistering set at Maryland Deathfest 2009 and they blew me the fuck away.  Nice guys to boot!! Kept running into them at the deli in the lobby of our hotel!  So cheers to Hail of Bullets!!  And to all reading, if you are a fan of old school death metal then go out and buy "Of Frost and War".   You will not be sorry you did.
